Summer Market Season 2020

The weather is getting warmer, the lilacs are blooming, and everything is turning green. These are not just the signs of late spring, but the start of the outdoor farmers market season! Even though things are feeling a little different this year, we can still visit our favorite farmers markets and take home some nutritious, locally produced foods for the family table. Supporting Vermont farmers and food and beverage producers is more important than ever, so let’s continue to strengthen our local food system!

Secretary Anson Tebbetts of the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets has released special market guidelines that will help keep everyone safe and healthy. Check out a summary of what can be expected below:

  • You’ll still be able to stop by and say hi to all of your favorite vendors, as permissible vendors include sellers of agricultural products (food, beverage, and non-edible items, including beeswax, fiber, cut flowers, plants, soaps and body care products, etc.) and non-agricultural products (i.e. crafts, jewelry, wood products, etc.)!
  • No picnics at the market this year - all foods and beverages available will be prepared and packaged for take away and consumption off-site. Eating and drinking (including sampling) won’t be allowed at the market. (We suggest you find a safe spot, distanced from others off-site to enjoy your market purchases).
  • There won’t be any entertainment activities that encourage folks to congregate, meaning children’s activities, music, cooking demos, etc., are suspended until further notice.
  • You’ll be able to pre-order and pre-pay online or over the phone with all vendors, if you’d like, making for easy pick up! There will even be special market pick-up times for customers at higher risk, such as the elderly or those with weakened immune systems or respiratory conditions.
  • All vendors will be wearing face coverings and gloves while packaging orders and serving customers, and as always, masks are recommended for all.
  • Touchless electronic payments will be strongly encouraged whenever possible (i.e. Venmo or Paypal).
