The Flying Pig Bookstore

The Flying Pig Bookstore opened in 1996 in Charlotte. In 2006, when "towers of knowledge" (also known as stacks of books on the floor) made it clear that more space was needed, the Bookstore moved to Shelburne Village into a space almost twice as big, with more than 20,000 books, cards, and gifts for all ages. The Flying Pig is known for their incredible staff, amazing visiting authors, and creative, fun events. They received the Lucille Micheels Pannell Award for Best Children's Bookstore in the country in 2008, a hand selling award from Candlewick Press, two "Best Of" awards from Yankee Magazine, and were recognized by The Wall Street Journal as one of seven bookstores around the country that help serve as anchors for their towns.
